Was it an ironic feminist look at entrenched and demeaning representations of women, or simply an excuse for fashion brands to cash in on a litany of pink tattoos and for beauty brands to hawk products promising “plastic-perfect” faces? ”? If the thought of those fuchsia posters still makes you feel excited, then bear with me: there’s awards season to get through. The film generated 1.1 billion #barbiecore views on TikTok, as well as a slew of somewhat ill-advised adult women dressed as dolls. Fortunately, pink’s dominance over fashion appears to be waning.

According to fashion search engine Lyst, searches for shorts have increased 133 percent year over year. A joy for all of us. The panty look, as seen again on Corrin in Venice, continues where the sheer, nude dress trend hit its stride. Some, like Julia Fox, for example, might wonder why bother with clothes at all.

The endless think pieces pondering the meaning of The Row’s Loro Piana knits and coats were only partially satiated by the end of Succession. More quietly expensive clothes! Not forgetting a ridiculously spacious bag that is not U. The bourgeois obsession with dressing like a rich person persists, with fawning explainers filling TikTok about which beige Zara sweater to buy so that it looks more like a city car than a subway car.
Making Kylie a reality
This year the Kardashians made Kylie fashionable. Until now, the mother of two had been more concerned about her lipstick acolytes, but after appearing at the Schiaparelli show at Paris Fashion Week with a giant (fake) taxidermy lion taped to her chest, Jenner jumped into the style spotlight. Her 399 million Instagram followers can now emulate every faux leather look with the newly launched Khy brand.

Did TikTok kill royal style? Summer of the Tomato Girl might have given those opposed to Barbie’s pink color something to ponder, but isn’t it time to start thinking beyond the algorithm for our fashion tips? A thought.
Mom is the word
Just when everyone was complaining about the pitiful lack of women in creative director roles at luxury fashion houses, Phoebe Philo swooped in with the surprising internet offer of a £3,000 mum necklace. Her first collection definitely had a stealth flavor: gray turtleneck knitwear and military-inspired coats will soon be littering a store near you. ’90s Nerd Sloane Returns
Loafers and socks? Ballet slippers? A white shirt with a stand-up collar and a sweater draped over your shoulders? The King’s Road homage was strong this year. An £800 price tag didn’t stop Alaïa’s studded ballet flats from becoming the most popular ballet flats of the year. Metallic embellished loafers and white athletic socks were a close second. The death of the flower dress?
It’s been a long year, but in February John Lewis declared the death knell for the stranglehold the simple floral midi-length dress has had on us for the last decade. We were no longer going to wallow in the confident style routine of street numbers with blouses paired with white sneakers. But kind of a warning. Next spring will be filled with enough rose motifs to hit the brakes, but reevaluate your footwear options.
